Hi, we are a group of four friends who share a lifelong passion for RVing, community, and the great outdoors. When we first discovered Wendy Oaks, we didn’t just see a beautiful, wooded haven with an 8-acre lake—we fell in love with the incredible story, heart, and soul behind it.
Before we share our vision for the future, you have to understand the history that makes this place so special. For years, Wendy Oaks was run by Melanie, who took over the park to honor her late sister, Wendy. This is their story, in Melanie’s own words:
"Wendy was a saver, and I was a spender. I wanted to make my way in the world outside of Mississippi, but Wendy loved calling it home... She had a dream to build, own, and manage her own RV park. In 2002 she put that vision into action by building Wendy Oaks in a peaceful wooded area with an 8-acre lake for fishing or just enjoying a walk - conveniently located on Hwy. 49 in Florence, MS.
She opened Wendy Oaks in 2003 to RV travelers as a place to layover for a night or just relax and unwind for a couple of days... It's not like the typical concrete layover RV park. Unfortunately, my beautiful and loving sister passed away in early 2020... Owning an RV park was not in my life plans, but I gave it my best and tried running it from my home in Nashville while still working my corporate job, which turned out to be impossible.
I ended up taking a six-week leave from my work to spend some time at Wendy Oaks to figure things out... But once I was here, surrounded by all the beautiful nature, the lake... I had an overwhelming sense of peace and I felt closer to my sister. I understood why she was so passionate about Wendy Oaks... During my first week here, I made the decision to quit my job, move to Mississippi, and manage the RV park full-time.
My sister dedicated almost 20 yrs of her life to making Wendy Oaks more than just another layover park. Now, in my sister's memory, I'm committed to carrying on her legacy..."
The Next Chapter: A Family-Driven Mission
Melanie spent years pouring her heart into Wendy Oaks, modernizing the park, bringing in Wi-Fi, online reservations, and building on Wendy's dream. When she decided it was time to pass the torch, she wasn’t just looking for buyers—she was looking for stewards.
That is where the four of us came in.
We are a group of four friends—including two who are happily married—who have long shared a dream of building a family business in hospitality. Walking onto this property felt like coming home. We felt the same overwhelming sense of peace that Melanie felt, and we knew instantly that this was the park where we wanted to start our journey together. We didn’t just buy a piece of real estate; we inherited a piece of a family's heart.
Our promise to Melanie, to Wendy’s memory, and to you—our guests—is simple: We are keeping everything you love about Wendy Oaks exactly the same, while working tirelessly to bring the rest of Wendy’s ultimate vision to life.
Building Upon the Dream
We are committed to preserving the quiet, shaded grass sites, the stunning 8-acre fishing lake, and the unhurried, peaceful atmosphere that sets us apart from typical concrete layovers. But we are also rolling up our sleeves to introduce new amenities, property upgrades, and experiences that will make Wendy Oaks an even more unforgettable destination.
Wendy dedicated two decades to this park, and Melanie gave up her corporate life to save it. Now, the four of us are combining our energy, our passions, and our shared dedication to ensure Wendy Oaks remains a sanctuary for travelers for decades to come. We want Wendy and Melanie to be just as proud of this next chapter as they were of the first.
